How to Put an Evacuation Procedure in Place

February 8th, 2013

The law states that every organisation is required to have a comprehensive evacuation plan in place in case of a fire or any other emergency situation. Every building whether it’s a hospital, school, hotel or retail premises, it must have a procedure in place to ensure the safe and efficient evacuation of everyone including staff, residents and customers.

Every organisation should have a FEEP a Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan, the complexity of this plan will depend on the size of your building and how many people work or reside in it, for example a hospital or a care home’s evacuation plan will be much more in depth than a small café’s plan would be.

Small premises may only need a simple fire action sign posted in various positions around the building to ensure it is visible for all the relevant people. Larger premises or those that are at a higher risk of fire or evacuation will need a more detailed emergency evacuation plan which takes into consideration the staff, customers and residents that would need to be evacuated.

A larger building will need to be prepared for every eventuality to ensure they could evacuate everyone from the building regardless of their ability. For example a care home will need processes in place to ensure the safe evacuation of elderly people or people who suffer from a disability or bariatric problems.

Here at K5 we specialise in ensuring that organisations and buildings have the necessary evacuation processes in place as well as all the necessary equipment they may need. We supply and install a wide range of evacuation chairs, stair climbers and many other accessories. We also offer site visits and all relevant training to ensure you have a comprehensive evacuation plan in place and a team of dedicated staff who are confident in both the evacuation procedure and how to use the equipment safely.

For further information on any of the products or services we have to offer don’t hesitate to get in touch with us today on 01234 354 539.
