Prevent Car Park Misuse with Disabled Parking Barriers

August 16th, 2012

Up and down the UK disabled motorists struggle to enjoy the services and amenities that many of us take for granted as non-disabled drivers abuse disabled parking in car parks. As a business owner you may think of it as an unfortunate issue, but Part III of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 makes it a legal requirement for car park operators to monitor and tackle the issue of disabled bay abuse. Here at K5 we’re on hand to help as we can supply you with Handipark disabled parking barriers to help make the job of enforcing the law much easier.

How the Handipark Works

The Handipark system is a simple yet ingenious way to ensure that the Disability Discrimination Act is enforced in your car park. Essentially a mini parking barrier, they are installed directly on to the surface of the road and can only be lowered using a hand-held remote control device that the driver possesses.

The barrier will only return to its normal position once the driver has vacated the space, causing the Handipark to rise smoothly back to its vertical position.

Avoid Financial Penalties

As a socially-responsible car park operator, making sure that nearby amenities can be enjoyed by everyone equally should be at the forefront of your mind. However there is more at stake than a guilty conscience, and there are hefty financial penalties that can be levied if you fail to comply with the legislation.

Disabled drivers have the right to compensation from the car park operator if they fail to monitor and safeguard against abuse effectively, so it is imperative that you do all you can to restrict disabled bays to disabled drivers only.
